description
The Firebird was introduced in 1963 in the ‘Reverse’ form, where the lower cutaway is longer than the top. However, due to poor sales and some complaints from Fender, in 1965 Gibson essentially flipped the body and head to this ‘Non-Reverse’ form. Additionally, the ‘Non-Reverse’ models use a set neck, rather than a through-neck, construction.
For its superb marriage of tonal versatility and revolutionary style, the "Non-Reverse" Firebird of the mid to late 1960s has long been a favorite with rock, blues and fusion players, being crafted from Grade-A tonewoods and loaded with three of Gibson's amazing P-90 pickups for that coveted fat P-90 tone. The 2003 Gibson Custom Historic Firebird also has all the other features that remain true to the original; top hat knobs with reflective inserts and the classic ABR-1 Bridge and Stopbar Tailpiece for perfect intonation.
This Firebird brings the past into the present with style. Play it, and you’ll discover what all the excitement was about back in 1965.
This guitar includes a genuine Gibson® Art & Historic non-reverse Firebird OHSC case and owner’s manual.
