Ever since it hit the scene in 1949 the ES-175 as an intermediate alternative to the exclusive L-5 and has remained the world's favorite "jazz box", and none looks as good as the 2016 ES-175 Figured from Gibson Memphis.

It was the first Electric Spanish model (ES stands for Electric Spanish) by Gibson to feature a Florentine cutaway. In 2016, 175 appears in two versions and this is the affordable one, if that could be said for a $4,849 guitar. 2016 ES-175 Figured is a marvelous jazz box, made in the vein of classic 175s but with a modern touch. Back, sides and the top are all made of flamed maple, AAA grade maple to be precise.
 
Both the back and top are arched and both feature classic crème binding around the edges. Top is also decorated with a plastic pickguard and "f" holes. Mahogany neck is a one piece, attached at the 14th fret and equipped with a rounded C profile. 20-fret fingerboard on its top is made of rosewood (split parallelogram inlays, 12" radius, and 1-11/16" bone nut).

Classic `57 humbuckers installed in the bridge and neck positions bring slightly unmatched coils for that vintage PAF tone. Standard set of two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch is featured in the controls unit. ABR-1 Bridge with wooden base and vintage trapezoid tailpiece, and a set of Grover Rotomatic tuners keep the tuning and intonation in check with surgical precision.

The wood, construction, and headstock pitch all contribute greatly to the tone, aiding this guitar's exceptional sustain and depth, and yielding a resonance that can be felt right through the body. The soundwaves resonate within the hollow airspace of the Maple veneered Body, around the F-holes, and throughout the solid glue joints.
